Motorola W156 - readable in sunlight?

I'm looking for a basic handset that is cheap enough for me not to bother about getting wet or covered in sand.
After needing to use my current cheap handset out on the water the other day, then finding that I couldn't see what was on the screen (it wasn't even that sunny), I began to think that it would never be any good in an emergency!

After looking around, it seems that there aren't any handsets which are cheap and have an easily-viewed screen outdoors.

The Nokia 1200 with it's monochrome LCD should be fine, but then I found the Motorola W156, which seems to be more widely available (in the UK).
It's a long shot, but has anyone seen or experienced what the Motorola W156 is like outside, particularly in sunlight?
