Any home networking boffins here?

More serious than the Mac bong question lol, my home network is annoying me! What I want to do is connect both of my macs to the network to be visible to each other, so I can sync things between them.
This works great on osx but not so great in windows (surprise surprise).
The mbp is running vista, the iMac is running windows 7 both on bootcamp.
I can see the iMac on vista but can't actually connect to it, I just can't press anything on the network map.
The windows 7 however will show every damn device in the house, everyone elses laptops, the tv and the xbox but not my bloody laptop!

Does anyone know how I can actually get these two computers to talk to each other, as to me it defeats the whole idea of having a 'networked home'
